How do I light my hookah charcoal?

The best method of lighting Black Owl coconut charcoals is through an outdoor setting (or in a well-ventilated area) and by using a single-coil electric burner. The Average ignition time of our charcoals are about 8 min to 11 (varies on size).

What is the difference between coconut charcoal and easy lighting/quick lights charcoal?

When it comes to differences between the two, there are a few important factors to note:

  1. MATERIAL COMPOSITION: While coconut coals are comprised of smouldered coconut shells, quick-light coals are produced from wood and sometimes sawdust shavings..

  2. IGNITION TIMING: Easy lights can ignite with a pocket lighter and are ready to use in minutes. These coals are ideal for smoking on the go when a power source is not available. Whereas, coconut coals require a stable heat source and take 8 to 11 minutes to be completely lit for use.

  3. HEAT OUTPUT & DURATION: Easy lights are considered to be a lower heat option and ideal for beginners or any smoker looking for a quick session. These coals can last 20 to 35 minutes. Coconut charcoal is a higher heat option that’s optimal for smokers who desire longer sessions. Coconut coals can last anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes on average.

  4. SMOKE AND ODORS. Quick-light charcoals produce sparks and emit smoke upon ignition as well as release a burnt odor after lighting up. Coconut charcoals however do not produce thick smoke, sparks, and odor upon ignition.

What are coconut charcoals?

Charcoal briquettes that are made from the shells/husks of coconuts. They are made 100% naturally and don't add any harmful chemicals or additives.

Why are some coals dark red and other bright red?

There is a misconception when it comes to burning color from coconut charcoals. It all comes down to preference even.

  •  Brighter coal in most cases it means the coal will burn faster and reduce in size more quickly.

  •  Darker red coals sustain heat for longer periods of time and distribute heat more evenly without over burning the shisha. True burn time varies on coal sizes. (Ex: 25MM ; Bright Red Color avg 20-45 min, Dark Red color avg 40-60min)
